CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS
Customs and traditions refer to the current and past practices, representations, expressions and knowledge that belong to a community of the target language. Some aspects closely related to this are:
- celebrations, social and religious events
- dress codes, uniforms
- etiquette and protocols
- fashion
- food
- historical events
- national costumes
- the arts

Custom A practice that a group of people routinely follow
Journey A traveling from one place to another, usually taking a rather long time.
Commemorate To honor the memory of someone or something, as with a ceremony; celebrate; observe
Dedication the act of promising yourself (intellectually or emotionally) to a course of action
Experience (n.) Knowledge gained by doing or seeing things;
Goal A specific statement of what you want to achieve, giving direction to your plan of action, Aim or purpose
Accomplishments a display of achievements that go above and beyond basic expectations.
Adventure(n) an exciting or very unusual experience
Tradition/traditional the handing down of statements, beliefs, legends, customs, information, etc., from generation to generation, especially by word of mouth or by practice
Rites Culturally defined activities associated with the transition from one place or stage of life to another.

Vibrant Full of energy and enthusiasm
Focus Sharpness or clarity of an image, A centre of interest or activity
Serene (adj.) peaceful; free of emotional upset; clear and free of chaos; calm
Attire (n.) clothes, apparel
Paramount Chief in importance, above all others
Reenact to perform again, to act out an event that took place in the past
Consecrate To make or declare something sacred or holy; set apart for a special religious purpose
Dissuade to advise against, to talk out of doing something
Modest humble; simple rather than showy;

Intense Very strong: feelings, smell, colour, etc.
Monument being, or appearing to be, larger than life-sized. Dedicated to showing power or greatness
Memorial A physical object that is designed for the purpose of remembering
Denotation the meaning of a word that is literal--exactly what it says
Connotation a word's emotional connection with each person—
Onlookers people who witness an event, people watching an event
Religious Having to do with a belief in a higher being or beings; spiritual
Services Activities done for others, such as providing haircuts or investment advice
Authentic Not false or copied; genuine; real
Invasion a large number of people or things arriving somewhere, especially people or things that are disturbing or unpleasant
Secular Not spiritual or religious
Mandatory Ordered by an authority so everyone must do; required.
Detractors (n.) people who criticize something or someone
Infringe (v) to violate a person's space, trespass, go beyond recognized bounds
Elusive Something that is difficult to catch, define, or describe
Contentious A person inclined to fight or argue
Earnest Serious and sincere in word and behavior
Supplication Humble plea or request , Begging, humbly asking for a favour
Covet To crave or desire, especially something belonging to someone else
Revival A series of meetings conducted by a preacher to arouse religious emotions
Decent (esp. "covering up" in terms of dress); small, limited |
